People often wonder why they have to put the blind of an Airlines window up while landing and taking off. Most Airlines require passengers to do so both for the safety and for common sense.

It has been noted that maximum number of plane accidents occur during a take off or landing - two most dangerous time when people are asked to raise the window blinds. It is required as a safety measure so that it becomes easier for the cabin crew and the passengers to adjust their eyes to natural light outside. If the plane has to be evacuated, it will be easier for people adjust to the bright light outside without wasting their precious moments. The crew and passengers will be batter oriented with what is happening and will be able to exit the plane faster.

Raising the window shades also help the crew to analyse the situation outside, whether there is fire, smoke, debris, Etc., and lets them decide which way the passenger should exit.

The Federal Aviation Authority has also issued a recommendation for all the Airlines that the window blinds should be open while landing and taking off. It has become a standard operating procedure in most Airlines.
